Bwthyn Alarch Reviews

Raymond
A lovely clean, spacious and well equipped cottage in a very quiet village close to fantastic coastal walks so many seals! . Everything we needed was available and the milk and Welsh cakes were a nice touch. We didn't actually get to meet the owners but they were easily contactable by email. The local pub does nice food. Highly recommended
We enjoyed our stay the cottage was clean, spacious and well maintained, kitchen had adequate items etc The only problem was the heating system It seems it is controlled by the owners and not easy to understand not seen anything like it in all the Sykes cottages we have stayed in Normally it is on the wall and you just adjust it accordingly like most households but not in this cottage! ! I understand some guests might take advantage and have the heating on unnecessary but we just wanted it on a few hours especially as it went cold at nighwe were out all day anyway We had to go and buy wood for the wood burner for heat at night time which was more expense after paying nearly a thousand pounds to stay for the week We didn't realise until the last day that the owners live opposite the cottage or we might have gone across and asked them to explain the complicated heating system to us ! We did correspond by email a few times re the heating and afterwards the radiators miraculously came on for a short time but not consistent. We had no way to dry all the wet towels which we used for showers, the beach and the hot tub, which was annoying. We enjoyed the hot tub and used it most days! The village is very quiet and quite a distance from everything and nothing there apart from a pub which served nice meals. We did enjoy our holiday the weather was lovely but I don't think we will be back.
This is a delightful cottage, deceptively larger than the pictures portray. The cottage is well kept and has everything you need for a short stay a real home from home! The welcome basket and the information folder were very thoughtful and useful touches. The village of Treffin is picturesque and we had a wonderful stay visiting the local area. The hidden bay at the bottom of the hill 5 minutes walk was a gem. The village pub was great, exceptionally friendly and the food was amazing. All in all, this was a great value for money holiday and I would highly recommend to couples and families alike.
Schnes, gerumiges altes Cottage.

Perfect cottage , so clean and with everything you could need . Added bonus of the hot tub . We had a fantastic holiday . The surrounding coastline is beautiful. Nearby Porthgain is a must and can be walked along the coast path in 50 minutes. Thanks again for a wonderful stay . We will definitely be back
There was a powerful bad small from the bathroom drain which the owners partly covered up with cleaning products. It worsened as the week progressed and we felt nauseous every time we used the bathroom. We washed and cleaned our teeth in the kitchen and showered with the outside and bathroom doors open. My wife slept in the room adjoining it and became more nauseous, with loss of appetite and a cough, as the week progressed. It was a lovely property but let down badly by the drain.
A beautifully presented cottage with all the amenities you would ever need for your holiday. So much character and history, yet with the modern day touches that you need. The cottage is located in a Beautiful part of Pembrokeshire with the beach and rock pools a short walk away. Lots of fabulous walking available on your doorstep. On those rainy days there are castles, gardens, cathedrals, palaces and adventure parks a short drive away. Highly recommended.
The cottage itself is an amazing property, however the stay was overshadowed by the lack of basic amenities. 1 toilet roll for 3 adults for the weekend is just stingy. No toiletries, no tea towels or kitchen roll. You can't advertise the cottage with a cosy fire if you're not going to provide the wood and kindling for people to actually use it. Also your guests who have paid 225 per night to have stripped all the beds and put various linens in various bags, put rubbish in various bags in various bins and have cleaned the dishes and put them away all before an early 10am check out is not right. Overall for 225 per night.... I'd expect a hell of a lot more.

Lovely cottage with everything you need apart from fire logs. Way bigger than it looks on the website and was very cosy with comfy beds. The hot tub is amazing and we were in it every day. A little tip if staying here, DON'T buy logs from the Gulf petrol station up the road Square and Compass. They are kept outside so if its wet then they are useless. Instead drive 8 miles to the Letterston Village Stores where you can get a big bag of logs and big bag of kindling wood for 10 which are kept in the dry. The pub The Ship Inn is the only one in the village and is superb!
Excellent cottage and nice to stay in a cottage where everything works
Louise
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the red cottage. The hot tub was fantastic! We loved watching the stars from the tub at night, it was beautiful. Only a short walk to the friendly Ship Inn and the beautiful Aberfelin beach where we saw stunning sunsets. We would love to visit again. The owners of the red cottage looked after us amazingly when we needed anything, we would definitely recommend a stay in this lovely quaint cottage.
Ambreen
An absolutely beautiful cottage, well maintained and clean. My boys and I had a lovely time at the cottage, which was well located near the coast. The cottage is extremely comfortable, cosy and is very big. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the host. Highly recommended, will most definitely visit again. We miss the beautiful views!

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cottage it was much larger than we thought it would be. Warm welcome from owner. Comfortable 4 poaster bed in main bedroom. Didnt need to use the twin room .The kitchen had full facilies as expected and everything was in good condition. Bathroom had large walk in waterful shower. Lounge diner comfortable and cosy. Good broadband , but tv difficult to navigate . Good off road parking on premises. Hot tub in nice private location . Good location for walking the coastal path. Local pub The Ship served local tasty food in a pleasant atmosphere all , staff very friendly . The Saturday night we were there there was a very entertaining band , great fun. We used Morrisons in Haverfordwest which was 35 mins by car. Thank you for a lovely holiday
We had a lovely stay, with everything we needed. The only thing I would say is that it might be beneficial to somehow have the skylight open in the bathroom without letting in rain when it's open apart from that very nice and quiet.
Ingrid
Really enjoyed our stay here. Great property in great location. Just what we needed.
We loved our stay, just a shame we were only there for 2 nights
Robert
Fantastic cottage, large yet comfy, with great offstreet parking. The lounge is comfy with a wood burner and a decent TV with smart box & really good internet connection. The kitchen is large and has everything you will need to selfcater. The weather was atrocious for a few days when we visited, so we enjoyed just chilling out in the cottage between storms. Trefin is a small but really nice village, ideally located for Fishguard, Newport beach and St David. There is a local pub a very short walk away, as is the coast path. Will defiantly visit again, hopefully the weather will allow us to walk the coast path more next time.
Melanie
This cottage is well located for all of the tourist attractions whether you have an activitybased or sightseeing holiday. The cottage itself is clean, tidy and the hot tub is a great addition! The village of Trefin is quiet with the local pub a few minutes walk away which we frequented most nights serving good food with vegetarian options. The owners are very communicative, easy to deal with and responsive if you need to contact them, as I did about my forgotten Kindle. Would not hesitate to recommend this property.
We found the cottage overall pleasant and comfortable, but the looshower room has no openable window and no extractor fan which can be unpleasant! we raised this with owner who will address this. Also net curtains in the main bedroom which gives straight onto the street would be a good idea. We found the heating system unfathomable no instructions at all but an excellent woodburner!
Laurie

A beautiful and well equipped cottage in a perfect location for exploring the local area, we had such an a amazing holiday and the additional information supplied by the owners about the area helped us plan and make the most of our stay, we will be recommending to others and hope to book again next year
This is a wonderful little cottage in the well located village for exploring Pembrokeshire. We walked so much of the coast line, relaxed in the hot tub, saw so much wildlife and just had the best time. A great place for really getting away from it all. There's a small pub in the village that now does basic meals pizza and a meatveggie other meal as a special each day and Porthgain is a really lovely 40 minute walk down the coast for fooddrink too. Can't recommend it enough.
We had a brilliant long weekend stay and would be happy to return if staying in Pembrokeshire again.
This was our second stay at Bwthyn Alarch and wed definitely be keen to return again in the future. Fantastic location, had everything we needed and owners have clearly invested in making improvements to the property with new sofas and shower this year and the kitchen equipment was also improved. It had all that we needed to have a perfect holiday in Pembrokeshire.
Nice . Could do with cleaning products to clean at the end of stay ! Only used hot tub once it had no chemicals and was quiet scummy bit disappointed. People & area lovely
Philip
Ideally located to explore the coast. Warm and cosy. Hot tub would be better described as a 'warm' tub temperature fixed to 36 degrees, temperature control made inoperable by the owner.
Tricia
Access to the coastal path was nearby. Trefelin in easy reach of main towns. Cottage had everything you could possible need for a cracking good holiday!
The cottage is in a lovely little spot right by the the pembrokeshire coast. Trefin is a gorgeous quiet village but with a pub and a cafe and a shop a close drive away it has everything you need. Our hosts were great and available at the drop of a hat for anything we needed.
Alison
When we first entered the property it looked welcoming, however the cleaning of the light switches, table tops, cutlery, plates, bathroom, windows showed a lack of cleaning. I cleaned the areas we would use. Also, there are many dead spiders in the webs previously mentioned in comments book finger marks and general greasiness on furniture which shows no cleaning especially in covid times. Therefore we won't be using the hottub as we are unsure if it safe to do so. Cottage is very tired, needing work done, and we are not comfortable staying here.
Tracey
What really let this cottage down was the hot tub, it really was only a lukewarm tub, the temperature was set at 34 degrees, with the weather being unseasonal during our stay once the lid was off the temperature In the tub wasnt anything near hot. The owners had covered the settings and the only buttons you could press were for bubbles and lights! Also the heating was on timer with notices not allowing you to touch the boiler, during the day with the stone flooring and no sunlight in the kitchen and master bedroom it was very chilly. The kitchen was very well equipped and shower very hot. Good location for coastal walks.
Corinne
We arrived after a 6 hour journey to find there was no welcome pack , and no directions to the nearest shop obviously displayed in the kitchen. So no cup of tea before we had to go out. The duvet covers were thin, old and lumpy I was was wishing I had brought my own. The heating was on timed , even though day time temperatures didnt get much above 10 degrees. When I rang up the person was very helpful, and said he would change it, but this not what you want to have to sort when away. The cottage was well equipped and very clean. It would not take much to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
The cottage exceeded our expectations, the parking is great the photos do not do ... The cottage exceeded our expectations, the parking is great the photos do not do this cottage justice, parking is easy, the beds were comfortable, the hot tub was clean and ready to use, the cottage is located perfectly for walks along the coastal path it took us only 10 mins to reach the path, would highly recommend
Elizabeth Kim
Nice cottage in quiet location very clean and inviting would recommend to friends and family.
Beautiful comfy cottage, ideal base for walking the coastal path. Excellent facilities especially the hot tub.
Duncan
The cottage was great. We had a great time and found the whole experience of renting the cottage easy and very comfortable. The communication with the owners was brilliant and made us feel relaxed about staying in the cottage. It was a great place to explore the west coast of Wales from and can recommend it to anyone looking to stay there.
The cottage was the perrfect base for our holiday and the hot tub was wonderful after a days walking the coastal path.
